THE FIRST version of the Land Rover Freelander was a rip-roaring success.

PRLog (Press Release) – Jun 19, 2011 – THE FIRST version of t ni ssan GTR specification he Land Rover Freelander was a rip-roaring success. It was among the first of the small SUVs that was not only stylish, but very useful too, showing itself to be one of the more capable vehicles off road.

Freelander II continued very much in the same vein, but ironed out some of the nasty problems that emerged in the first version. The first generation Freelander was about as reliable as an Irish summer and this needed to be sorted. Things have improved greatly with the second version, b 2011 Dodge Durango R / T ut lots of factors have conspired against its success. For a start, with the success of the first generation of the Freelander, all of Land Rover's rivals – and lots of brands who wouldn't even be considered rivals – started making vehicles that were similar in flavour.

W first drive audi a6 e have had Volkswagen making a Tiguan, BMW selling an X3, and the Korean brands of Hyundai and Kia making competent rivals too – not to mention Toyota's ever-clever RAV4.

None of these could match the Freelander's off-road ability though, and Land Rover even started fitting better diesel and petrol engines that didn't blow head gaskets like champagne corks. Then we all started caring about emissions. And Land Rover didn't really know how to respond.

Their Range Rover, Discovery, and Freelander models were all thirsty beasts and once we started getting charged for emissions, sales of these dropped off the charts. This year, we have bought 65 per cent fe android application wer Freelanders in Ireland than we did in 2007. But if you think that is bad, sales of the Range Rover have dropped 97 per cent.

Land Rover has had to respond quickly and they have done so with a new version of the Freelander. And it doesn't have four-wheel drive.

By removing the four-wheel-drive system from the Freelander, it saves 75kg of weight, thereby consuming a lot less fuel and producing lower emissions. The result is that this Freelander coughs up just 158g/km of carbon dioxide – an 11 per cent improvement in emissions over the outgoing TD4_e. And that's without any loss in terms of performance.

The resulting drop in emissions means a drop in tax bands, which means a drop in price too. TIt now starts at €29,995, but the test car we were driving is an XE version and it costs €32,995. So far so good, right? There are a couple... okay there are many things that annoy this writer about cars.

One is when you jump into a car that isn't a sub-€12,000 city car and it has a plastic steering wheel. I know it is a small thing, but since this is the part that you hold all the time you are in the car, if it feels cheap it blights the experience. And at €32,995, we still hadn't reached the lofty heights of a leather wheel. When we drove this car back in November of last year we noted that this was a great price and in many ways it is. However looking now in the mid-summer of 2011, things have changed a lot. But more on that later.

What is impressive about the Freelander is that it does feel more upmarket than its key rivals. There is a kerbside presence about the Freelander that still isn't matched by any of the €30,000 SUVs. In its present guise it is handsome and isn't bulky enough to prompt environmentalists to start vandalising it.

The 2.2-litre diesel really is excellent. With 150bhp and 420Nm of torque, it out-muscles pretty much all of its rivals at this level – most of which are trying to haul along considerable bulk with a measly 110 or 115bhp. It is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox and without the fuss of four-wheel drive, the Freelander moves off quite smartly. There is Stop/Start in this new front-wheel-drive Freelander and it helps to keep emissions down.

You will 1086274749  all be reasonably familiar with Stop/Start at this stage and we have used it in lots of vehicles and are accustomed to the way it operates. However, unless someone in Birmingham forgot to install it in our Freelander, then it wasn't working as regularly as we would have liked. In fact, over the course of our week, I can't recall it operating at all.

JOPLIN, Missouri, June 14, 2011 – Spared from the tornado that ripped through Joplin last month, Frank Fletcher Ford is coming together with Ford Motor Company and local Ford employees to offer support. The Joplin tornado destroyed two of six dealerships in the Fletcher Auto Group but has not claimed their spirit of hope.

"We want to do what we can to help our family, friends and neighbors get their lives back," said Roger Williams, General Manager of Frank Fletcher Ford. "With so many homes and businesses lost, the people of Joplin need all the support they can get."

Shortly after the disaster, the Ford Motor Company Fund made a donation of $50,000 to Feeding America to assist with hunger relief efforts in the community of Joplin. Feeding America aids disaster relief and recovery by distributing food and grocery products through a network of more than 200 food banks that serve 61,000 local charitable agencies.

Local Ford employees have also taken action by raising money to assist wit goverment technology h relief efforts in Joplin. Em first drive audi a6 ployees at the Ford Kansas City Assembly Plant working through the UAW Local 249, raised $7,700 in a matter of days. The plant has also arranged for groups of employees to help with clean up efforts on a bi-monthly basis.

"I'm very proud of our team in Kansas City for stepping up to support the people of Joplin in this time of need," said Jeff Wright, President of UAW Local 249.

Local Ford offices also pitched in $3,000 worth of cash and goods and personally delivered their donation to Frank Fletcher Ford last week.

"Like many others, we felt compelled to help our neighbors affected by the recent tornado in Joplin," said Kevin Klossner, Ford Kansas City regional manager. "With so much widespread devastation in Joplin, every little bit is going to make a difference."

Ford also is offering a disaster relief cash bonus to the people in Jasper and Newton counties who were affected by the storm. Residents who had their vehicles damaged or lost from tornado damage qualify for $500 in bonus cash toward the purchase of a new Ford car or truck.

PRLog (Press Release) – Jun 14, 2011 – The seemingly inconspicuous seating system is merely inferior to engine in the automotive cost structure. The average price of common car seats is around US$850-1,050, that of medium-grade ones US$1,400-1,600 or so, and that of top-grade ones over US$2,000. The seating system turns out to be more expensive than gear box, chassis, and auto body to most of the cars.     The automotive seating system mainly consists of cushion frame, back frame, slide channel, covering, pad assy, recliner assy, and motor. The frames and the slide channel are usually obtained via the laser welding of high strength steels and they ask for excellent metal processing technology. Pad assy requires superb chemical preparation technology, electric control and order recall need electronic technology, and covering demands textile technology; consequently, there are few manufacturers of automotive seating assembly and the threshold is very high.  

The global automotive seating manufacturers fall into American, Japanese, and European factions. The America-based manufacturers are mainly composed of JC and Lear. As the world's largest manufacturer of automotive seating system, JC enjoys absolute superiority in pad assy technology and global presence. It possesses rich cash flow and improves its industry chain through purchasing small producers. JC accomplished three acquisitions from November 2010 to January 2011. In Nov., 2010, JC purchased Michel Thierry, the supplier of automotive seat textile fabrics for JC; in December 2010, JC acquired the component business of Keiper, the inventor of seat recliner assy, and the seating business of Recaro famous for top-grade automotive seating system; and in January 2011, JC bought the supplier of metal frames for automotive seating system named CRH whose major customers are manufacturers of luxury vehicles.

Lear started its business with seating fabrics, its industry chain is highly integrated, and the major clients cover GM, Ford, and Audi, who contribute more than 50% to its revenue.

The Japanese manufacturers include Toyota Boshoku, TS, and TACHI-S; wherein, the former two thrive from seating fabrics, while the latter grows from seating spring. Toyota Boshoku mostly supplies for Toyota; 74% automotive seating systems of Honda are provided by TS; and the major clients of TACHI-S are Nissan and Honda.  

The European manufacturers consist of French Faurecia and German Brose. Engaged in medium & high-grade cars, Faurecia acquired Seat Comfort Segment of German Hoerbiger in December 2010. It mainly serves Audi A8 & A7, BMW 7 series, Bentley 831/621, and Benz S series, all are luxury cars priced over RMB 1 million.  

Brose, the largest manufacturer of electric seat adjustor and the second largest manufacturer of door-lock system in Europe, takes the lead worldwide in the fields of electric window winder, auto door system, ABS motor and air-conditioner fan assembly, but it deals with small quantities of seat assembly.  

In addition, the automotive seating manufacturers cover South Korean DYMOS and HANIL E-HWA; wherein, the former also provides gear boxes for South Korean Tanktech, and the latter gives priority to trim.

All the automobile manufacturers in China except BYD adopt the seating systems of joint ventures, 2011 Chrysler 200 Convertible and BYD also needs to purchase key components. The automotive joint ventur automobile news es in China are mostly controlled by the foreign parties, and may eventually develop into sole proprietorships. The joint ventures of foreign-funded automotive enterprises in China are mainly the branch companies with the highest profit margin. Marine Corporal receives Victory Motorcycle; Volunteers send support to Ronald Reagan Strike Group

PRLog (Press Release) – Jun 11, 2011 – The mood at the Van Nuys National Guard Armory was both celebratory and respectful on June 5 as hundreds of Operation Gratitude volunteers and special guests gathered to assemble care packages for Sailors and Marines assigned to Ronald Reagan Strike Group, and to witness a young Marine Corporal, recently returned from Afghanistan, receive a Victory Vegas 8-Ball Motorcycle promised to him on Christmas Day, 2010.

Operation Gratitude Volunteer Coordinator, Penny Alfonso summed up the day simply, "It was a day of laughter, tears, and patriotism."

Cpl. Clancy Colt Cheek gratefully took ownership of the special gift presented to him by Robert Pandya, External Relations Manager of Victory Motorcycles.

Cheek, the recipient of Operation Gratitude's 600,000th care package, is a member of the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment and returned to Camp Pendleton earlier this spring after a deployment in Sangin, Afghanistan. During the deployment, the 3/5, also known as the "Darkhorse" Battalion, endured heavy combat and losses, including the death of Cheek's best friend, 19-year-old Lance Cpl. Alec Catherwood, of android application Byron, Illinois.

Pandya told Cheek he was proud to represent Victory Motorcycles and speak on his co-workers' behalf. "The motorcycle community has always cherished the 'Freedom to Ride,' a privilege guaranteed by the efforts and sacrifice of our heroes in the Military," he said. "We all thank you for what you, and every member of the Armed Forces have done for those of us lucky enough to live in the United States of America," he said.

Cheek expressed his heartfelt thanks for the motorcycle and for the dedication of the Operation Gratitude volunteers and supporters. Responding to a young woman who called him a hero, Cheek recalled the Marines who did not return from Afghanistan. "I'm no hero," he said. "Heroes are those men who stood beside me in the Valley of Death and gave their lives for freedom."

Operation Gratitude founder, Carolyn Blashek, said Cheek was the perfect person to receive this gift as a representative of all members of the U.S. Military. "Cpl Cheek was humble and incredibly gracious in accepting the Victory Motorcycle," Blashek said. "He spoke to us straight from his heart, without a single written note, but with much passion, convict goverment technology ion, and great thoughtfulness. There was not a dry eye in the place."

In commemoration of the anniversary of President Ronald Reagan's passing, Michael Reagan, his wife Colleen, and son, Cameron, along with representatives of the Reagan Legacy Foundation participated on the Assembly Line to create care packages for the 5,000 crew members deployed aboard aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan, named in honor of the 40th President of the United States.

Reagan, the President's son, read a letter he had received that morning from the Commanding Officer of USS Reagan, Captain T.W. Burke. "Care packages from home are always a welcome surprise and we appreciate everything that Operation Gratitude does to support our Military," Burke wrote.

Care packages were also assembled and shipped to the crew of guided-missi first drive audi a6 le destroyer USS Preble and guided-missile cruiser USS Chancellorsville, both currently serving in the Ronald Reagan Carrier Strike Group.

Since the program's inception in 2007, Drive One 4 UR School has offered 275,000 test-drives at more than 1,500 events to generate over $5 million for high schools nationwide.
